Dancing For Water

Dancing for water

These girls from Kijigari spontaneously began dancing to celebrate the construction of their borehole “Well of Love”, built by Montessori students around the world.  They were joyously impatient for the opening of their well. They were also impressed by the drilling rigs that, for them, were a symbol of hope. Before the construction of their borehole, they spent hours and sometimes days looking for water.  They were unable to attend school because they did not have the time to do so.  After the construction of their borehole, attendance at the Kijigari school went from less than 10% most of the year, to over 90% year-round.  These girls were able to attend school.  They also had more time to learn the artisan trade of their mothers, and help at the women’s garden.
