THE DEADLY MIGRATION
After losing 90% of his livestock, Mohammed travels to Libya several months a year to conduct petty-commerce.
He describes the horrendous clandestine passage through Niger’s northern Sahara: “Men and women migrants travel on heavily over-packed trucks, which often overturn, killing almost all onboard. When trucks break down, passengers are left to die of thirst and hunger.”
With a heavy heart he leaves his wives and children with few resources to survive during his absence.
